Mona Art Gallery - an eye opening must see!.



Mona art gallery is a must for travelers and is Australia’s largest private museum with 3 levels of underground galleries. The building architecture alone is worth the visit then of course there is the eye opening exhibitions. If you are very conservative and not really into art, this might not be for you.


Owner David Walsh, built the the Museum of Old and New Art (Mona) to house his collection of ancient, modern and contemporary art. Peruse the collections and you can use the custom-built, handheld technology, called the O, that tells you about the artworks on display



Mona is located on the banks of the Derwent and just a short ferry trip from Hobart or you can drive there to Berridale, approx. 20 minutes five from Hobart,


You can also just visit the grounds for lawn lounging, outdoor art, alfresco eating and live music.

at, there is a wine bar, with lighter options along with Source restaurant perched atop the Mona site, with sweeping views and a gourmet menu and accompanying wine list. There is Faro Bar & Restaurant suspended over the river with great music and changing restaurant themes.

OPENING HOURS Mona is open four days a week. Fridays to Mondays, 10am–5pm (until 6pm for Dark Mofo, 10–20 June). Open after dark for Mona Up Late on Saturday 11 June, 10am–10pm (last museum entry 8pm). The Source Restaurant is open for lunch Friday–Monday, 12–4pm. Pre-bookings essential.
